DNA Hair Testing

Your Genetics Add Another Piece To the Picture

Hair loss rarely has one simple explanation. Your genetics can influence hair-loss patterns, nutrient utilization, circulation, inflammatory response, and how you may respond to certain treatment options.

DNA Hair Testing provides information that cannot be seen through scalp imaging or health history alone. These findings are reviewed alongside your Hair & Scalp Evaluation to help guide more personalized decisions with less trial and error.

What Is HALO DNA Hair Testing?

HALO DNA Hair Testing evaluates genetic variations associated with hair loss and several biological pathways that can influence hair and follicle health.

Your results may provide insight into:

  • Genetic factors associated with thinning and shedding

  • Predicted response to certain hair-loss treatments

  • Potential response to oral and topical prescription options

  • Nutrient metabolism and utilization

  • Circulation and nitric-oxide pathways

  • Inflammatory and oxidative-stress pathways

  • Collagen production and cellular support

  • Nutraceutical ingredients that may complement your plan

DNA testing does not predict your future or provide every answer. It gives us another layer of information to consider when creating your personalized recommendations.

Why I Recommend DNA Testing

Different people can respond very differently to the same treatment. An option that works well for one person may provide limited benefit for someone else.

HALO DNA Hair Testing can help explain why certain approaches may be more appropriate than others. It may also help us identify options worth discussing before investing additional time and money into another generalized treatment plan.

DNA testing does not replace your Hair & Scalp Evaluation or medical care. It helps us make better-informed decisions about which options to consider.

What Does the Test Involve?

The test is completed using a simple, non-invasive buccal swab from the inside of your cheek and a detailed health questionnaire.

Your sample is sent to a specialized laboratory for processing. Because your DNA does not change, this is generally a one-time test.

Results are typically available within approximately four to six weeks, although laboratory processing times may vary.

How Are the Results Used?

Once your results are received, I review them alongside your Hair & Scalp Evaluation, health history, medications, lifestyle, goals, and documented findings.

Together, we will review what your results mean and how they may influence your personalized plan. Recommendations may include:

  • In-office treatment options

  • Nutritional and nutraceutical support

  • Targeted home care

  • Additional testing when appropriate

  • Oral or topical prescription considerations for review by a medical provider

  • Long-term monitoring and maintenance support

Prescription decisions are made by the appropriate medical provider based on your complete health history and individual medical needs.

DNA Is One Piece of the Puzzle

Genetic testing is one part of understanding your hair loss. It cannot identify every contributing factor or replace bloodwork, medical testing, or a comprehensive evaluation.

Your DNA results are considered alongside everything else we know about your hair, scalp, health, and history. No single test provides the complete answer, but each relevant piece helps us create a clearer and more personalized path forward.

You can Start With a Hair & Scalp Evaluation

You do not need to decide whether DNA testing is appropriate before scheduling. Your Hair & Scalp Evaluation is where we begin.

If DNA testing would provide useful additional information, we can discuss how it fits into your personalized plan. Existing Root Revival clients who are interested in HALO DNA Hair Testing may contact us directly.
